African Instrument

Picture
This is my African instrument its a drum. When played the vibrations from the drums rattles combined with the drum beats to produce a more percussive sound. The drum is almost like other african drums but the narrow drumhaed and ringed midsection and stool like baseis very rare. The drum was formed in Liberia, a country in west Africa. Also, this instrument was made in the mid 20th century It was made for a good hunt. Some symbols that are on the drum that can identify this, is the animal hide and straw that is on the top.my personal conection with this instrument is that it looks just like bongo but with only on drum head, and a ringed like stool.

Instrument In Progress

Picture
My instrument is a bucket drum it's played by hitting ether one of the buckets with your hand,or a stick. The materials that I used for my drum are two 5 gallon buckets, and duck tapeand cultural symbols for my culture. Some challenges that I have gone through making this instrument are  trying to make  different sounds for my composition. And I resolved them by putting on of my buckets higher then th other to make a high pitch, and a low pitch noise. Also,I found out if you hit the corner of my instrument it will make a short click.

Cutural Vbrations Report Final Reflection

My Cultural Vibrations report will provide interesting information about my design. It will discuss the comparison to older instrument, to the newer instrument, and the traditions that are important to my culture.

Would you believe that just two five gallon buckets could be transformed into a fully functioning instrument? Yes, my instrument is fully functioning instrument because if you hit the top of the tallest bucket it wall make a low pitch, and if you hit the smallest instrument it will make a high pitch noise. Also my instrument is important to my culture because if you look at all my details on my instrument then you can easily identify things such as text lingo, traditions, government, and innovations. For example an “I pad”, and “silly bands” for innovations or balloons for a birthday party. This shows how my instrument is a fully functioning instrument, and also a cultural artifact.

Did you know there can be similarities and differences between an African drum and a 21st century pop tween culture drum? As a matter of fact I will name some. For one both instruments are drums and produce the same type of sound. Also, you can play them both by either use your hand to hit the top of the drum or banging it with a stick. Also, my African instrument was made out of things such as iron, hide, skin and cloth. Lastly, my drum would be played at an L.A party while the African drum would be played at a ceremony (like a good hunt).these are the similarities and differences of my drum and the African drum

My 21st century pop tween culture drum can be a cultural experience because you can identify all of the symbols as items from this century. For example “Silly Bands” and the “IPad” are all innovations of the 21st century. Also, the “nicknames” and “peace signs” on my drum represent tween common language. Just by hitting the top of the drum with a stick or you hand, my drum can make a high and low pitch noise depending on were you hit it. Lastly, my drum would be played at a venue such as “The Staple Center” as the opening act for an L.A concert. “The Tweens” would wear what there star would wear for example I’m being “Ke$ha” so I would wear black. But, everyone else in my group would have to wear something that has to do with there stars personality.

In conclusion this is how my 21st century pop Tween culture bucket drum is a cultural artifact, can be a comparison to an African artifact, and can still have a cultural experience.
